Trip itinerary

Detailed Itinerary – Sacred Valley of the Incas Full Day Tour

The Sacred Valley of the Incas Full Day Tour is one of the best cultural experiences from Cusco, combining Inca history, Andean traditions, archaeological sites, local villages, and stunning mountain landscapes in one complete day.

Tour Start Point

The tour begins at 6:45 a.m. from the Machu Picchu Trip Guide office, located at:

Portal Nuevo 270, Plaza Regocijo, Cusco

Our office is located near the Plaza de Armas. We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes early so the group can depart on time and enjoy the full itinerary without delays.

From there, we will begin our scenic drive into the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

First Stop: Chinchero

Our first destination is Chinchero, located approximately 45 minutes from Cusco.

Here, your guide will take you through the archaeological remains, Inca terraces, and the colonial church built over ancient Inca foundations. You will also visit a local family for a traditional weaving demonstration, where you will learn how Andean textiles are made using natural dyes, alpaca wool, and ancestral techniques passed down through generations.

This stop is a great introduction to the culture, history, and living traditions of the Sacred Valley.

Explore Moray

Next, we continue to Moray, one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in the region.

Moray is famous for its circular agricultural terraces, believed to have been used by the Incas as an experimental farming center. Your guide will explain how these terraces created different microclimates and helped the Incas study crops and adapt agriculture to various conditions.

You will have time to explore, take photos, and enjoy the unique design of this impressive site.

Visit the Maras Salt Mines

After Moray, we will visit the famous Maras Salt Mines, a spectacular landscape made up of thousands of salt pools that have been used since ancient times.

Your guide will explain the traditional salt-harvesting process and how local families continue to manage the salt ponds today. You will also have time to admire the views, take photos, and visit small stalls where you can find handcrafted salt products and local souvenirs.

Buffet Lunch in Urubamba

Around 12:30 p.m., we will stop in Urubamba, a beautiful town located in the heart of the Sacred Valley.

Here, you will enjoy a buffet lunch with a variety of Peruvian dishes. Vegetarian, vegan, and special diet options are available upon request.

This is a perfect moment to relax, recharge, and enjoy local flavors before continuing with the afternoon visits.

Discover Ollantaytambo

After lunch, we continue to Ollantaytambo, one of the most important archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley and one of the best examples of a living Inca town.

Your guide will lead you through the impressive terraces, stone walls, water channels, and ceremonial areas, including the famous Temple of the Sun. You will learn about the strategic, religious, and agricultural importance of Ollantaytambo during the Inca period.

The visit usually finishes around 3:00 p.m.

If you are continuing by train to Machu Picchu, you may choose to end the tour in Ollantaytambo and stay near the train station.

Final Stop: Pisac

Our final archaeological stop is Pisac, known for its extensive Inca terraces, ceremonial areas, and panoramic views over the valley.

Your guide will explain the importance of Pisac as an agricultural, religious, and strategic site. You will also have time to explore the area and take photos of the impressive landscapes surrounding the ruins.

Return to Cusco

After visiting Pisac, we will begin the return drive to Cusco.

Arrival at Plaza Regocijo is usually between 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., depending on traffic, weather, and the pace of the group.

Important Note

Travel time between destinations usually varies from 30 minutes to 1 hour. At each site, you will typically have around 30 minutes to 1 hour for the guided visit, photos, and exploration.

If you do not have the Boleto Turístico yet, don’t worry. You can purchase it at Chinchero, the first stop of the tour.

What to Pack for the Sacred Valley Day Tour

Packing properly will help you enjoy a comfortable and stress-free Sacred Valley of the Incas Full Day Tour. Since this experience includes archaeological sites, traditional villages, mountain landscapes, and changing weather conditions, we recommend bringing only the essentials in a small daypack.

Comfortable Walking Shoes

Wear comfortable walking shoes or light hiking shoes with good grip.

You will visit archaeological sites such as Chinchero, Moray, Ollantaytambo, and Pisac, where paths can include stone steps, uneven terrain, and dirt trails.

Layered Clothing

The weather in the Sacred Valley can change during the day.

Mornings can feel chilly, midday is often warm and sunny, and the afternoon may become cooler again. We recommend dressing in layers so you can easily adjust throughout the tour.

Sun Protection

The sun can be strong at high altitude, even on cloudy days.

Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat or cap to protect your skin and eyes while visiting open archaeological sites and viewpoints.

Reusable Water Bottle

Staying hydrated is important, especially when traveling at altitude.

Bring a reusable water bottle so you can drink water throughout the day and stay comfortable during the visits.

Camera or Smartphone

The Sacred Valley is full of beautiful landscapes, Inca ruins, colorful villages, and panoramic viewpoints.

Bring your camera or smartphone to capture the best moments of the day. If possible, carry extra battery or a power bank.

Cash in Peruvian Soles

Bring cash in soles for entrance tickets, snacks, drinks, souvenirs, bathrooms, or personal purchases.

Some local markets and small shops may not accept card payments, so having cash will make the experience easier.

Rain Protection

If you are traveling during the rainy season, from November to March, bring a lightweight rain jacket or poncho.

Weather can change quickly in the Andes, so it is always useful to be prepared for unexpected rain.

Personal Documents

Carry your passport or valid ID, along with any tour tickets, vouchers, or documents you may need during the day.

This is especially useful if you are continuing to another destination after the tour or if entrance control requires identification.

Smart Packing Tip

Keep your daypack light and practical. Bring only what you need for the day so you can move comfortably between sites and fully enjoy the beauty, history, and culture of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

We did the 4 day and 3 night Salkantay Trek on the 27th of July, and it was honestly one of the highlights of our trip. I couldn't recommend it enough, especially with Machu Picchu Teams.Everything exceeded our expectations from the accommodation and food to the organisation and most importantly, the amazing staff. Our guide Max made the experience so special. He taught us so much about the Quechua way of life and Inca traditions at every stop along the trek, which gave us such a good appreciation for the places we were visiting. He was also so much fun to be around, always making us laugh and keeping everyone's spirits high, even during the toughest parts of the hike. His positivity, encouragement and knowledge really made the experience unforgettable.A huge thank you as well to our chefs, especially Braulio, the head chef. We genuinely couldn't believe the quality of the food considering where we were. Every meal was so fresh and delicious and they had lots of vegetarian options too. We were given three generous meals a day which also included starters at lunch and dinner, plus snacks along the way. It was far beyond anything we expected on a trek. What really sets this company apart is the people. Max wasn't just a guide he genuinely cared about everyone in the group and always made sure we were doing okay. He knew exactly when to encourage us on the harder climbs, when to make us laugh, and when to stop to tell us another story about the history and culture of the area. He gave us a group name and gathered us every morning to do a chant together to get us ready for the day. You can tell he loves what he does and his passion made the whole trek so much more meaningful. The entire team was so kind and welcoming, and they made us feel looked after from start to finish. If you're thinking of doing the Salkantay Trek, I couldn't recommend Machu Picchu Teams more. It was an unforgettable experience, and we're so grateful to everyone who made it so special.

This tour is full of adventures and blessings. The exciting bicycle descent from the Andes took us through changing landscapes to the tropical rainforest. The hike through the jungle, led by an expert guide, allowed us to learn about the local flora and fauna. The RAFTING and ZIPLINING activities added excitement to the trip and were perfectly organized. The natural hot springs were an ideal place to relax after days full of activities. The visit to Machu Picchu was the highlight, with its impressive architecture and view. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a combination of adventure, nature, and culture.
