Your day begins before sunrise, with a 4:00 a.m. pickup from your hotel in Cusco (3,399 m / 11,152 ft). As the city sleeps, you’ll head toward the South Valley, watching the Andes slowly come to life with the first light of day — a peaceful and unforgettable start.
After a 2-hour scenic drive, you’ll arrive in Pitumarca, where a buffet breakfast awaits — the perfect way to fuel up for the adventure ahead.
The journey continues to the charming district of Checacupe, one of the most unique cultural stops on the route. Here, you’ll find three bridges standing side by side, each representing a different era of Peruvian history:
- An Inca rope bridge, part of the ancient Qhapaq Ñan network, still maintained using traditional techniques passed down through generations.
- A Colonial stone bridge, showcasing Spanish architectural influence from the 16th century.
- A Republican metal bridge, symbolizing the modern era.
It’s a fascinating snapshot of history — and a perfect place for photos.
From here, you’ll continue to the base in Ccairahuiri, where the real adventure begins. After a quick safety briefing, you’ll hop on your ATV and start an exciting 20-minute ride through high-altitude landscapes, replacing what would normally be a long and demanding hike.
Your destination is the breathtaking Vinicunca, also known as Rainbow Mountain, located at an impressive 5,036 meters (16,522 ft). As you arrive, you’ll be rewarded with one of the most extraordinary natural sights in Peru — a mountain painted in vivid stripes of red, purple, green, yellow, and pink, formed by mineral deposits over millions of years.
From this viewpoint, you’ll also witness the powerful presence of Ausangate Mountain, the sacred guardian of the region. Its glaciers feed the rivers that nourish the valleys below, making it not only visually stunning but deeply significant in Andean culture.
After taking in the views, photos, and explanations from your guide, you’ll ride your ATV back down to base — another 20 minutes of pure fun and adrenaline.
To wrap up the experience, you’ll enjoy a well-deserved lunch at a local restaurant, before heading back to Cusco, arriving around 4:00 p.m.
