STUDENT PRICE

HOW TO ACCESS THE STUDENT PRICE FOR A TOUR TO MACHU PICCHU?

The Peruvian government offers discounts for students on entrance tickets to Machu Picchu. Consequently, in our tours to Machu Picchu, we provide a reduced rate for students. To qualify for this special rate, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Student Age: You must be under 25 years old at the time of your visit to Machu Picchu. This age limit is aimed at benefiting undergraduate students.
  • Material and Format of the Student Card: The card must be a physical plastic document, similar to a credit card, with all the required information printed on it. Cards made of other materials or with information added via stickers or not printed are not accepted.
  • Required Information on the Card: The card must include the following printed information: details of the university, personal information of the student, the student’s photograph, and a validity date not exceeding one year from the date of your visit. For example, if you plan to visit in 2024, the card should not expire before 2025 and must be valid during the visit.
  • Note on the ISIC Card: Although the International Student Identity Card (ISIC) is recognized in many countries, it is not accepted by the Peruvian government for student discounts at Machu Picchu. Just as a passport cannot be replaced by any other type of identification in international procedures, the student card cannot be substituted by an ISIC or any other document for discounts in Peru.

The policy of the Peruvian government is stringent regarding the accreditation of students. It is imperative to present a card that fulfills these criteria to be eligible for student-priced tickets because, upon entering Machu Picchu, you will be required to show the physical student card. If you do not meet these requirements upon arrival at Machu Picchu, there is a significant risk of being denied entry and having to pay the full ticket price, depending on availability. Therefore, ensuring that your student card adheres to Peruvian regulations is crucial before booking your tour to as student Machu Picchu.

WAYNAPICCHU: THE MAJESTIC MOUNTAIN OF MACHU PICCHU: Waynapicchu is the prominent mountain that forms the famous backdrop in the classic photographs of Machu Picchu. It offers a unique hiking experience and panoramic views, but it’s important to know some details before planning your ascent.

  • CHECK AVAILABILITY: Before scheduling your visit to Waynapicchu, it’s essential to verify ticket availability through the official website provided by the Peruvian government: www.machupicchu.gob.pe. With a daily limit of 400 spots, this link enables you to see the real-time ticket availability, helping you make a well-informed decision. While this link is only for checking availability, don’t worry about the purchase; at Machu Picchu Reservations, we handle the entire ticket acquisition process for you. It’s important to note that if the official government page shows that there’s no availability, this applies universally, as both agencies and individual visitors obtain tickets directly from this official source. Therefore, if the site indicates that there are no spots available, unfortunately, no one will have access to tickets for that particular day.
  • LIMITED ACCESS: Access to Waynapicchu is restricted to 400 daily visitors, divided into four groups of 100 people each, with entry times at 7 a.m., 8 a.m., 9 a.m., and 10 a.m. This limitation helps preserve the site and ensures a safer and more enjoyable experience for everyone.
  • RESERVATION ON SACRED VALLEY AND MACHU PICCHU TOUR: If you’re taking the Sacred valley and Machu Picchu tour, we typically book tickets for the 9 or 10 a.m. schedules, allowing you to visit Waynapicchu after your guided tour of Machu Picchu, but if there is not spaces for the later schudle provabli we Will buy the shedule wichi si avalible.
  • TIME FOR ASCENT AND STAY: The climb to Waynapicchu generally takes about an hour. Once at the top, we recommend spending about 30 minutes enjoying the views before starting the approximately 45-minute descent. In total, you will need between 2 to 2.5 hours for the complete experience.
  • VIEWS AND RUINS AT THE SUMMIT: The summit of Waynapicchu offers spectacular panoramic views of Machu Picchu and the surrounding landscape. In addition, you will find ancient Inca constructions, including platforms, houses, and enclosures whose purposes are still a subject of study and admiration.
  • SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS: The trail to Waynapicchu can be steep and challenging in some sections. If you suffer from vertigo or fear of heights, be aware that some parts are abrupt and may require the use of your hands to stabilize yourself. In these cases, you might consider other less demanding routes.
  • UNACCOMPANIED BUT SAFE: Although the visit to Waynapicchu does not include a guide, the area is constantly monitored by cameras and park rangers to ensure the safety of all visitors.

MONTAÑA MACHU PICCHU: THE ALTERNATIVE PEAK AVAILABLE FOR CLIMBING UPGRADE TO VISTADOME TRAIN: Montaña Machupicchu, which rises to 3080 meters above sea level, is located to the south of the famous Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. To better understand its geographical position, note that the iconic photographs of the Inca citadel are taken from the base of Montaña Machupicchu. It’s essential to distinguish between Montaña Machupicchu and the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is the renowned archaeological site visible in most photographs and serves as the area’s central attraction, while Montaña Machupicchu is a separate, accessible peak. If you wish to climb Montaña Machupicchu, you must purchase a ticket. This peak offers unique views and a different perspective of the landscape surrounding the historic citadel.

  • CHECK AVAILABILITY: Before scheduling your visit to Montaña Machupicchu, it’s essential to confirm the availability of tickets. You can do this through the official Peruvian government website: www.machupicchu.gob.pe. Each day, only 400 tickets are available: 200 for entry to Montaña Machupicchu between 7 and 8 a.m., and another 200 for entry between 8 and 9 a.m. For those planning to climb this mountain during their Inca Trail tour, we usually purchase tickets for the latter schedule, allowing you to ascend Montaña Machupicchu following your guided tour of the citadel. Booking in advance is highly recommended due to the limited number of spaces. If you’re interested in including this mountain in your Inca Trail tour, it’s advisable to arrange this when you book your Inca Trail to ensure availability.
  • CLIMB AND STAY TIME: The total time for a visit to Machu Picchu Mountain is estimated to be between 3 to 3.5 hours. This includes around 1.5 hours for the ascent, 30 minutes to take in the breathtaking views at the summit, and approximately 1 hour for the descent. The path is broader and not as steep compared to other trails but is predominantly made up of stone steps, showcasing an authentic Inca trail. At the peak, you’re rewarded with stunning vistas of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, and the encompassing landscape of valleys, rivers, and mountains. On clear days, you can also spot the final segment of the Inca Trail.

______________________________________________________________________________________________

UPGRADE TO VISTADOME TRAIN

  • On the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu tour, we include train tickets, usually for standard services such as the Expedition or Voyager trains. These are typical tourist trains, offering comfort, cleanliness, and stunning views of the scenery. However, if you wish to enhance your journey, you can upgrade to the Vistadome train for the trip between Aguas Calientes and Ollantaytambo. The Vistadome features larger windows and a glass dome on the roof, providing an even more panoramic viewing experience. Additionally, the Vistadome offers entertainment shows, such as music and dance. If you’re interested in upgrading to the Vistadome train, there is an additional cost of $35 per person on top of the Inca Trail tour price, offering a more immersive and luxurious journey.

Bucket list experience This was an experience of a lifetime! I wouldn’t have done it with any other company. They really look after you and ensure you have the best experience as possible. We were served delicious freshly made traditional Peruvian food everyday and served an array of different hot drinks. Along the way we were welcomed by the amazing views of the Peruvian Andes and Amazon rainforest. Juel was an incredible tour guide, very passionate about his Inca ancestors and about the nature around us.

Great, rewarding experience This tour was a great experience, not only seeing Machu Picchu itself but also beautiful lakes, viewpoints and Inca sites. The food was absolutely incredible and there was more than enough for each of us. Joel was a great guide, very passionate and knowledgable about the Incan empire. I would definitely recommend hiring the walking poles and sleeping bag. The whole experience was very rewarding and Joel made sure the morale of the group was high. The only downside was the return bus company from Hidroelectrica to Cusco. We booked via bus and had to leave Machu Picchu early to catch this bus. The organisers made us wait for over an hour for our bus, which meant we could have had more time at the site.

4-Days Salkantay Trek with superb guide Aurelio I did the 4-days Salkantay Trek with Machu Picchu Reservations together with a friend. Our guide Aurelio was really good and you felt that he completely identifies with the Anden culture! He always made sure that everybody in the group was able to follow. Also he gave us a lot of interesting insights into the Anden culture and nature. In general the organisation of the tour was good (briefing one day ahead of the tour, information flyer etc.). It could have been better, if we would have been better prepared for the rainy weather. Drying wet clothes was challenging in the accommodations which we had.

5 day trek review with Juan Oros (guide) The salkantay trek under the expert guidance of Juan Oros was a life highlight of mine. We completed the hike across 5 days and were blessed with plenty of breaks in the weather given it was wet season. If you're completing the hike in March, do NOT forget a poncho, plastic bags/dry bags, and extra pairs of socks/clothes for when your stuff gets wet (it's very hard to dry stuff after it's wet). Juan was optimistic, knowledgeable, understanding and went out of his way constantly to ensure our experience was a good one. Additionally, he was transparent and gave us options when the conditions affected the normal route. Machu Picchu reservations are accommodating for dietary requirements and provide comfortable accommodation along the hike. All-in-all, some incredible views, plenty of laughing, great and varied hiking, good food, and an incredible guide. Thank you Juan and Machu Picchu Reservations for an unforgettable experience!

Marco’s Muchachos - A Tale of Adventure, Laughter, and Friendship Words cannot even begin to describe the experience Marco provided for myself, my mate from work, and our Aussie, British, and English friends. Aside from the natural beauty of Humantay Lake, rich culture of the Incas, majesty of Salkantay Peak, and, of course, the grandiose beauty of Machu Picchu itself, the experience was truly made unforgettable because of Marco’s guiding service. Incredibly knowledgeable, considerate, and fun, Marco guided us through the 4 day, 3 night trek stopping to elaborate on the fascinating history of the trail and of the Incan people culminating in a well-earned view of the historic ruins themselves. As an avid traveller and hiker, I would strongly recommend THIS particular company with specifically Marco as the leading guide.

ChoquequirWOW I can't recommend this tour enough. Our tour guide Renzo was organised, professional and incredibly intelligent. I felt like I was in safe hands and benefitted so much from his vast local knowledge and prefect English. The food was a great opportunity to try local Peruvian cuisine and as a vegan I was very grateful for the effort our hosts, Renzo and horseman Jon went to to make sure I had delicious meals. The hike was challenging but the constant stunning views made it worthwhile and I felt so accomplished afterwards. Plus Renzon provided us with lots of encouragement and support. Choquequirao itself was like nothing I have ever seen before. We only saw 13 people not in our group there (including the ricket collector). The site is impressive and feels special, especially with everything Renzo told us about it. Having a whole day to explore the site was brilliant as we could take our time ot enjoy and appreciate it rather than rushing off, like others we saw did. It meant we had a lovely lunch there, kindly delivered by Jon, and had the site to ourselves for the afternoon. If you are in Peru you must visit Choquequirao and I strongly recommend ypu use Machu Pichu adventures for the perfectly curated experience.

Incredible Trip! Incredible trip!! Our guide, Bruno, was phenomenal and a crucial part of why our experience was so great. He let us set our own pace and had meeting points each 1-1.5hrs of hiking. He taught us so much about local culture and history and made us appreciate the scenery we were walking through even more. The views are truly stunning. Each camp was comfortable and the meals were great! Tons of food and always felt fueled up for long days. I would recommend Machu Picchu Reservations again! We had nightly briefings about each day of the trek and they ensured we had everything we needed for a safe and enjoyable trek. I have been to Machu Picchu before but going via Salkantay Trek was a far better experience and I would recommend this trek over and over--truly an unforgettable experience!

4 day Salkantay trek with Angel Me and my friend Conor did the 4-day Salkantay trek with our guide Angel. Angel was a fun and attentive guide who taught us a lot about the surrounding area and showed us some breath taking scenery. He always gave us a lot of information about the day ahead, made sure we were comfortable and helped make the trek a really memorable experience. Reaching the 4600m peak of Salkantay was incredible and finally getting to see Machu Pichu were definitely highlights of the journey. Would recommend.
