Llactapata is an Inca site which is located in the west of Machu Picchu and this are the only accessible Inca ruins that is located on salkantay trail. you can visit a day before arriving in Machu Picchu. From there you can see the wonder of the world Machupicchu . There are different ways to access to this trek and the most beautiful is that you will hike on original Inca trail that leads to the Inca ruins of llactapata.The trek begins in Lucmabamba which is located in the midle way between La Playa Sahyayaco and Santa Teresa at 2000 mt / 6561 ft from Lucmabamba you climb to Llactapata located at 2800 mt / 9186 ft. With a distance of 7 km / 4.3 ml the ascent lasts approximately 3 hours. On the way you will pass through plantations of coffee, coca, bananas, avocado and there is incredible views of Santa Teresa valley and the best is that you are going experience hiking on original and well manteined Inca trails wich use to conect Machu Picchu with Choquequirao. After reaching to the top you will have a spectacular view of Machu Picchu, Montaña, Huynapicchu even you can see the mountain of Salkantay if the weather favors. After exploring llactapata you will hike downhill for 2 more hours towards Hidroelectrica to have a delicious lunch, then you continue to Aguas Calienets town to spend a night and visit machu picchu on the next day.
If you book salkantay trek 5 days on the fourth day of the tour you have the opportunity to do the llactapata trek. On the third night of your Salkantay trek you will spend the night in Santa Teresa camp after relaxing in the thermal baths of Santa Teresa. The fourth day we will wake you up at 5:30 a.m. with a tea of coca and then he will have breakfast and then we take a car to Lucmabamba where you will begin the trek towards Llactapata.
If you book salkantay 4 day and really want to do the Llactapata trek. On the third day of the tour in the morning you will take a car from the camp of Chawllay to Lucmabamba for 1.5 hours approximately to start the Llactapata trek.
If you are not doing any of the options of the Salkantay trek you can do the Llactapata trek in two days including Machu Picchu. We pick it from the hotel in Cusco at 4:00 in the morning to take you by car to Lucmabamba, car ride takes about 6 hours. once in Lucmabamba you start the trek to Llactapata for 3 hour uphill then 2 hours to Hidroelectrica, time for lunch then 3 hours hike to Aguas Calientes Town to have dinner and sleep in the hotel. next day you visit Machu Picchu.
Once in lucmabamba we will start the trek to llactapata this road is an original trail from the inka times which was used to connect Machu Picchu with Choquequirao, the ascent takes about 3 hours then you have enough time to explore the Inca ruins of llactapata and enjoying the view of the inca cathedral Machu Picchu, there the guide will give you an explanation about the place. After you walk down to Hydroelectrica for a delicious lunch and continue with the trek to Aguas Calientes for 3 more hours. where you will have the chance to have a dinner and if you like a night in the hotel in order to visit machupicchu on the next day
